Raleigh Brewing Company's recipe for City of Blokes, a sessionable English Bitter.

Raleigh is known as the City of Oaks and we are a huge fan of puns. Give a toast to your best bloke with this English Bitter to salute to our city's namesake, the British courtier/adventurer/writer/poet/all-around overachiever Sir Walter Raleigh. This straight-forward recipe uses subtle additions of Special B and Victory Malts to bring hints of toast, roasted nuts, and caramelized honey to the beer. Three additions of East Kent Golding hops add a moderate earthy hop note.

First English Bitter

I cold crashed and kegged this after 2 weeks then force carbed for 24 hrs to get my first sample. At 2 weeks, this beer was young and needed more time to develop. By week 3, the malt aroma and caramel flavors really started to shine. The East Kent Goldings gave a nice subtle earthy bitterness to a malty backbone that was malt forward but not too sweet. This brew was a delicious alternative to my standard IPA or Pale Ale recipes.
